This position manages the editorial calendar for AOL Autos and plays a leadership role in the shaping of the site's editorial focus, content topics and overall tone. AOL Autos is a leading automotive website, serving 7 million users a month. The site now features 100% original content, with 80 content releases per month planned.
This position requires an intense appreciation for the keeping of a thriving editorial calendar, including the long-term planning of coverage around major events as well as the flexibility to cover breaking news stories. This person plays an important role in the development of the channel's overall strategy and works as a conduit between our contributors and the publishing of their work. Included in these tasks are copy editing, contacting writers for their assignments and revisions, and the rapid assignment and publishing of news stories. The managing editor makes sure the train is running on time.
Secondary to maintaining the integrity of the editorial calendar, this person will author articles and video scripts in support of the site's editorial goals. This can include feature stories, interviews, buying guides, blogs and rapid-response news articles on deadline. Incremental projects, such as the launch of new niche sites, will present opportunities for the managing editor to display leadership and take an editorial lead in shaping the voice and tone of an undeveloped property.

Duties/Responsibilities:
Manage editorial calendar for AOL Autos
Co-plan the forward-looking editorial plan for the channel, developing the site's long-term focus and tone
Work with production managers to ensure timely and quality publication of stories, buying guides and videos
Interface with 20 freelance contributors on their deadlines and revisions
Copy edit stories for style and quality as they arrive
Receive direction and workflow assignments from Programming Director
Author original content and videos for AOL Autos
Continually optimize content & experience
Stay up to date on latest Content Management System upgrades and tools and develops best practices to increase efficiencies and productivity within CMS environment
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Organized: Must be proficient in planning and maintaining the workflow of a major content site
Automotive experience: Must have a strong feel for the automotive industry, previous experience working within an OEM, automotive media group or related industry position
Editorial vision: Takes a leadership role in developing the site's focus
Technical ability: Superior web, CMS and software skills the ability to learn tools fast
Excellent communication skills, written and verbal
Independent: Demonstrates strong initiative to notice problems and provide solutions
Previous experience working in organizations where matrix inter-dependence is required, navigating cross-functional relationships collaboratively and efficiently
