As a key member of the U.S. Army's Future Combat Systems (FCS) Team, BAE Systems is responsible for five of the eight manned variants and for major elements of the common platform design. These critical weapons will be the first in a new line of combat vehicles and systems that will empower soldiers through unmatched firepower, situational awareness and survivability.
Technology developments in composite materials, hybrid electric power systems, active protective suites, integrated vehicle survivability, reactive and passive armor kits, crew station design, training systems, unmanned ground vehicle capabilities and other features position the organization at the forefront for future ground combat system developments.
Ground Systems is certified to ISO 9001 standards and the highest level (Level 5) on the Capability Maturity Model - Integrated (CMM-I) for systems and software engineering.
Works under the general direction of the Program Manager to plan, develop, and manage, advanced manufacturing technology development; is responsible for strategic manufacturing technology provider partnerships, strategic manufacturing customer liaisons, requirements identification including producibility, co-production planning, production engineering, and remanufacturing projects; and achieving performance objectives for cost, quality, schedules and safety, as measured by pre-determined Key Performance Indicators.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Researches project/program requirements to identify essential needs. Performs liaison between customer and Manager/Director for developing project or proposal planning. Provides project management.
Performs project liaison between Program Manager and production planning for implementing new and innovative-production processes. Responsible for customizing process applications per identified essential needs.
Plans, develops, implements, directs and evaluates major projects; prepares project schedules and personnel resource requirements, tracks fiscal commitments; determines work scope and priorities.
Supervises, trains, and evaluates personnel; provides general supervision to assigned technical personnel; may make recommendations and/or initiates personnel actions; evaluates and suggests staffing to ensure maximum utilization of personnel; ensures compliance and company and departmental policies and procedures; assigns tasks and performs administrative duties.
Implements, analyzes, and maintains cost and schedule control management system for assigned projects; serves as Functional Manager on assigned projects/programs.
Conceptualizes, oversees designs, and implements systems/solutions for complex manufacturing programs; reviews project design to ensure requirements are met.
Participates in project and group strategic planning.
Evaluates and develops manufacturing practices and procedures across Operations to promote greater cost effectiveness and efficiency.
Prepares project progress reports and briefings for management and customer.
Responsible for the development of the SOW for primed and subcontracted manufacturing programs, and monitors their technical performance to ensure compliance.
Maintains critical interfaces with teammates and subcontractors.
Represents the company at meetings, conferences, equipment tests, and demonstrations with U.S. Government, customers, subcontractors, and other defense contractors.
Contacts within the company in coordination of project efforts; contacts with customers and U.S. Government representatives requiring tact and judgment.
May also be required to manage production efforts of major programs/projects.
May also be required to define production scope of work, which may include significant interface with Program Management, domestic customers, and foreign customers.
Maintains a safe work environment and ensures compliance with safety objectives and policies.
Provides leadership for the shared responsibility of employee development. Shares responsibility of self-development with immediate supervisor.
Minimum Education / Experience:
Relevant Bachelor's degree (typically Engineering or related science) or equivalent plus additional 8 years relevant experience; or relevant Master's degree plus 6 years experience.
Six years experience in engineering and/or production, including two years Operations project experience
Preferred Education / Experience:
Advanced degree in Engineering, Management, or Business.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Knowledge of engineering and production practices and principles; customer organizations and DoD material acquisition cycle; cost schedule control system regulations; developed technical writing skills, ability to communicate effectively and to prepare and present briefings required.
Ability to hire, develop, motivate, direct, and retain staff.

Ability to plan strategically.
Ability to manage projects, and develop budgets.

Physical Requirements:
Regularly required to sit and stand; frequently required to move about, and reach with hands and arms. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
